A few times a week before work I get coffee from the Starbucks across the street. It’s been my morning ritual for months now.
I have become close friends with all the morning baristas. Being a very friendly person, I often engage the people I am in line with. Starbucks is always busy, so I end up having good conversations with the people I meet. The Starbucks I go to is in a hotel, so many of the people I meet are quite interesting.
This past summer, I happened to meet an older gentleman who was in the CoastGuard. We struck up a great conversation right away. I told him about my brother being Marine, and he told me about his time in the CoastGuard. As a kind gesture the man ended up paying for my coffee. I said thank you and went to work.
I continued to see the CoastGuard guy throughout the summer. A few of the times Coastguard guy brought a friend with him. I became friends with both of them. Once summer was over my two friends stopped coming to Starbucks in the mornings.
Today I went to Starbucks and the baristas informed that today’s coffee and all my coffee for the next few days had been paid for. At first, I was excited and then I didn’t know what to think. I had only met the CoastGuard guy’s friend once or twice. I couldn’t decide if his gesture was nice or creepy.
So, I want to know what you think. Was the fact that he brought me coffee nice or creepy? I don’t want to assume that he is creepy right away, but I hardly know him.
Is it fair to assume that his nice gesture is creepy or weird?
