Ok, so I admit the title of this post is a complete lie. I hate snow and cold as much as the next person. I’m tired of wearing tights, boots and a bulky coat to work everyday. I hate the fact that I can’t run outside.
It seems that everyone I talk to throughout my day has the same feeling about the snow and cold. I’ve had some great conversations with complete strangers about the weather. And that’s the part I enjoy most about snow storms in March. I love connecting with people. For a few weeks all people living in the Midwest have something in common. We put our differences and prejudices aside and bitch about the snow.
We bond over the fact that all we want to do is stay in bed with a good book or movie. We talk about the fact that last year at this time it was 80 degrees! It may seem funny that I enjoy the snow in the spring, but the fact is I have to find a way to be positive about it.
Even the most unfriendly, grumpy people at my job will talk to me when it is snowing in the spring. So, if you live in a part of the country where it is snowing right now, see if you can strike up a conversation with a stranger about how much you both hate the snow.
I can almost promise that at the end of your bitch fest, you will not only feel better, but you may have just made a new friend.
